First off, let me say “bravo” to Rep Renee Ellmers for taking Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner to task here.
We reported on Tuesday that Tax Cheat Timmy has been calling for increased revenue higher taxes. Yesterday, during a House hearing, Congresswoman Renee Ellmers unloaded on him for wanting to impose a job-killing tax increase on small businesses. Geithner responded by saying that unless we raise taxes, government will have to shrink:
If you don’t touch revenues and you leave in place the tax cuts for the top 2 percent that were put in place by President Bush, if you leave those in place and you’re trying to bring our deficits down over time, then you have to do exceptionally deep cuts in benefits for middle-class Americans and you have to shrink the overall size of government programs, things like education, to levels that we could not accept as a country
Shrink the government? My God, man! That’s crazy talk!
Actually, no. That’s exactly what we want, Mr. Geithner. Exceptionally deep cuts.
