Cuomo wants to repeal part of the gun law he JUST signed, calls himself an extremist

Before he signed his soon-to-be-declared-unconstitutional gun control bill in January, governor Cuomo had this to say about those who opposed him:

“Common sense can win. You can overpower the extremists with intelligence and with reason and with common sense,”

You know, because those who like the Constitution are “extreme”. In any case, now (after his approval rating has sharply plummeted) he wants to repeal parts of it. Doesn’t that make him an extremist?

From the New York Times:

In the wake of the elementary school massacre in Newtown, Conn., Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo of New York pushed through the State Legislature gun control measures that included not only a tougher assault weapons ban but also a tighter restriction on the maximum legal capacity of gun magazines.

But after weeks of criticism from gun owners, Mr. Cuomo said on Wednesday that he would seek to ease the restriction, which he said had proved unworkable even before it was scheduled to take effect on April 15.

The gun-control law, approved in January, banned the sale of magazines that hold more than seven rounds of ammunition. But, Mr. Cuomo said Wednesday, seven-round magazines are not widely manufactured. And, although the new gun law provided an exemption for the use of 10-round magazines at firing ranges and competitions, it did not provide a legal way for gun owners to purchase such magazines.

CBS had this to say:

“There is no such thing as a seven-bullet magazine. That doesn’t exist, so you really have no practical option,” Cuomo said on Wednesday.

Gun owners would then be on the honor system to put only seven bullets in the clip.

Let’s recap this nonsense:

  • Under the law, New Yorkers are permitted to own a 10 round clip, just not buy one.
  • If repeal is successful, they’ll be able to own and buy a 10 round clip, but only be allowed to put 7 rounds in it (if you’re a lousy shot, good luck).
  • The law is enforced by the “honor system”.

Under the “honor system”, couldn’t Cuomo let people keep all of their weapons by simply promising not to participate in mass shootings? You know, since the “honor system” is so powerful and all.

This law is not only capricious and arbitrary, it’s ludicrous and unconstitutional. Why does anyone take this man seriously?
