I understand that you are a part of a small group attempting to encourage the senate to reduce the amount of pork and increase the amount of infrastructure spending in the proposed stimulus plan. While I agree with your sentiment, I disagree with your principles. The fact of the matter is, the government should have NO effect on the success or failure of the economy other than to protect it through law enforcement and allow it to flourish by reducing taxes--even if it means that America is poor for a time. Imagine if the government had bailed out the wagon industry whenever cars came around! Please think about this before you spend any of my money. Thanks!

GORE HEARING ON WARMING MAY BE PUT ON ICE

Al Gore is scheduled before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Wednesday morning to once again testify on the 'urgent need' to combat global warming.

But Mother Nature seems ready to freeze the proceedings.

A 'Winter Storm Watch' has been posted for the nation's capitol and there is a potential for significant snow... sleet... or ice accumulations.

"I can't imagine the Democrats would want to showcase Mr. Gore and his new findings on global warming as a winter storm rages outside," a Republican lawmaker emailed the DRUDGE REPORT. "And if the ice really piles up, it will not be safe to travel."

A spokesman for Sen. John Kerry, who chairs the committee, was not immediately available to comment on contingency plans.

Global warming advocates have suggested this year's wild winter spells are proof of climate change.

Why I'm Thankful for President Bush

There are many things to be thankful for today. Our nation has made great strides toward racial equality, but none greater than today. And our peaceful, regular, organized transfers of power are the envy of the world.

I'd like to say that I'm also thankful today for President Bush. To be sure, I have disagreed with him many times, but on so many important issues, he did what was right even when it brought him great criticism. Thank you, President Bush for:

Steadfastly upholding the sanctity of human life. You have shown us that a society is no greater than how it treats its most vulnerable citizens, and even human beings in their earliest stages should never be cannibalized for the well-being or convenience of other human beings.

Keeping our nation safe from attack for more than seven years. After 9/11, many thought that would be impossible.

Restoring dignity to the office of the presidency. And for never, not once, lashing out at those who often criticized you viciously and unfairly.

Hand writing a note to each and every family who lost a member in battle. And for crying real tears with many of them.

Giving up playing golf while our troops were at war.

Liberating hundreds of thousands of people under two of the most heinous regimes in modern history. And for modifying the battle plan when you needed to. You showed great courage and leadership, and you had great success.

Putting Islamofascists on the defensive around the world and for fighting them on their soil, not ours.

Attempting to tackle social security. My generation will be forced to deal with it eventually. You tried to solve it now instead of pushing it off on us. You met with too much resistance in Congress, but you tried. Thank you for that.

Never raising taxes.

Doing more than any other president to eradicate AIDS in Africa.

Installing jurists who have great knowledge of respect for the Constitution. And for standing by them when they were unfairly filibustered by obstructionists in Congress.

Your simple faith in God and for believing the Bible.

I'm sure there are other reasons, but these are on my mind this morning.

It seems Democrats in congress can't even wait for Obama to swear in before they introduce legislation to repeal the U.S. Constitution's 22nd Amendment and remove the restrictions on his term limits. Rep. Jose Serrano, D-N.Y. (pictured above) has already set the proposal loose in the House and it is headed to the House Committee on the Judiciary.

Rep. Serrano is the same bright fellow who recently negotiated with Hugo Chavez for discount gas in his South Bronx district.

This is not the same time Rep. Serrano has worked for this cause. He also introduced a similar bill in 2003 in effort to remove Bill Clinton's term limits.

Mike Huckabee wrote in his book Do the Right Thing about "soulless conservatism." This is the epitome of that. I used to optimistically follow Paul's logic on foreign policy, but I'm left shaking my head now. Paul follows the "government, get out of my life" philosophy on just about everything. Now, I hate to say "government is good," but I will say that government is good when it does its job. Foreign policy, defending our allies, and standing up to terrorists is deinitely in the job description on which I vote.
