I want to take a moment to address a topic that is being overlooked for "bigger" stories such as Blagojevich, throwing shoes at the president, and bailing out the "big three" auto giants. This past week, various pro-abortion groups (including Planned Parenthood and NARAL) put together 55 pages of "marching orders" for President-elect Barack Obama. This wouldn't be surprising as there are plenty of special interest groups lining up in the lobby of the "office of the president elect" to remind him of their large campaign contributions and list for him their expectations when he takes office in January. The thing that makes this one alarming is that Obama's change.gov transition website actually posted the memorandum.

The memo (which ironically nullifies Obama's promises that lobbyists and special interests will have no place in his administration) calls on Obama to keep his promise to quickly pass the Freedom of Choice Act, fill judicial seats only with pro-abortion candidates, strike all limits on tax-payer funded abortions, increase the funding of abortion clinics, restore funding to international abortion funds, include guarenteed abortions in his health care plan.... The list goes on and on in organized, detailed fashion. The memo is so overt, so pointed, and so radical that pro-abortion groups didn't actually expect the Obama transition team to post it.

This news has travelled slowly, in fact barely at all. I have been unable to find a single mainstream media outlet that has reported the fact that the incoming presidential administration not only received the extensive policy action request but also added the official "office of the president elect" logo to every page and posted it on the change.gov website.

Personally, the irony of this omission from news coverage is maginified by the near round-the-clock coverage of the tragic Caylee Anthony murder case. I'm not saying that the apalling murder of little Caylee doesn't deserve our grief, outrage, and attention. However, I think that America could stand a dozen fewer viewings of President Bush dodging shoes. Instead, let's have some in-depth coverage of our incoming President's promotion of future legislation that would effectively snuff out thousands of innocent lives who won't even live to see the precious three years that Caylee had on earth.

The loss of innocent life should always spark our righteous anger, compassion, and our demand for answers. It is our job as citizens to draw attention to these important issues. Please take a moment to draw attention to this issue. How you do that is up to you. Post a reply on Obama's transition website. Contact your congressman and senators. Contact a member of the press. Post this article on your myspace, facebook, website, or blog. Forward this article to your friends and family.

It is important that Americans who value the sanctity of life not let this issue go unnoticed.

Wasilla Bible Church in Wasilla, AK, has sustained an estimated $1m in dollars in damage from what authorities are calling a "suspicious fire." Locals aren't questioning that the fire was the result of arson, and authorities are investigating the incident as a crime.

"Someone intentionally did it, but we don't know who and why," said Pastor Larry Kroon.

There were around 6 people in the building when the fire was set, but nobody was injured. Wasilla Bible Church is Sarah Palin's home church, and Palin's spokesperson has issued an apology to the congregation for any chance that the fire was related to her attendance. However, Pastor Kroon is not commenting on whether or not he thinks the arson was politically motivated.

It's been widely reported that various musicians are upset about their music being used to "break" terrorists at Guantanamo. One of the surprising names on the list is composer Bob Singleton, who arranged the famous "I Love You" theme song for the kids show Barney which is one of the songs on the "terrorist top ten." Last night, Greg Gutfeld on Fox News Channel's Red Eye said that Singleton is "out of his mind" .

Upon hearing this, I contacted Singleton, noting the mention on Red Eye, and he sent this reply to me:

I looked it up on the Fox website. Actually they got it wrong; I said (in an Op Ed piece for the LA Times) that musicians shouldn't get so shook up about their music being used for that. I'm fine with it; I just figured they'd get better results playing a jack hammer really loud... like through a stack of Marshalls. All that stuff comes with the territory.

Thank you for taking the time to contact my office with your opposition to plans for a bail out of the major American automakers. Your input is important to me, and I appreciate the time you took to share your thoughts.

I fully understand and appreciate the contributions to the American economy that have been made by General Motors, Ford Motor Company, and Chrysler. As I am sure you are aware, these companies employ many Tennesseans and make up a sizeable and valuable portion of our state's manufacturing and retail sectors. From the plant in Spring Hill to suppliers and automotive dealerships across the state, the impact of a major corporate failure for these companies would be felt at multiple levels throughout Tennessee.

But I have been troubled by a number of issues surrounding the so called Big Three's proposal. Their contracts with the UAW and many other long-term obligations for which they have been unwilling to take tougher positions, along with changes in the automobile market and restrictive state laws that limit their ability to rapidly adjust to major changes cast great uncertainty on their future economic viability. If we in Congress were to give $25 billion to these companies now, without them making needed changes, I do believe they would be back again in a few months asking for more public support.

On November 18, 2008, I attended a hearing of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee and heard testimony from the CEOs of the Big Three Auto Manufacturers and the President of the United Auto Workers Union. I was given the opportunity to discuss with them the specifics of their loan request and how that money would be used. Precise details, much to my dismay, were not forthcoming, and I was disturbed by the lack of planning that became apparent during their testimony. Between this hearing and personal discussions with industry insiders, I came to the conclusion that this package would not be an appropriate response to the current problem. Many of my colleagues agreed with this assessment, so much so that the bailout bill did not even come before the full Senate for a vote.

This week, the Big Three are scheduled to submit a report to Congress detailing how the funds they may yet receive would be used. Following this report, we are scheduled to have more hearings in the Banking Committee on the topic, with a likely vote to follow the week of December 8. Once I have received this report, heard new testimony, and have had a further chance to evaluate the viability of these corporations, I will make a final decision on this issue based on the new information. But unless there are significant changes, I am highly skeptical of making any loan to these troubled corporations.

Moving forward, we in the Senate will continue to monitor our country's economic situation. I assure you, the difficulties being faced by Tennesseans during these times of economic uncertainty and hardship are of the utmost concern to me, and I and my staff will be using all the resources and options at our disposal to help in the months ahead.
